Название: Finding Flow: The Psychology of Engagement with Everyday Life (Masterminds Series)
Автор: Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Издательство: Basic Books
Год: 1998
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 97
Размер: 33 MB
Язык: English

I didn't realize that this wasn't the first of the Flow books when I ordered it. Otherwise I would not have bothered. Csikszentmihalyi's work had been recommended to me by a friend.

I have a feeling I would have gotten much more out of this had I read Flow first. As it was, this felt to me like a patchwork of ideas, anecdotes and research fragments about an idea that the author assumed I already knew at least a little bit about. My fault, not his, probably. Some of it was interesting.

Название: Statistics in Psychology: An Historical Perspective
Автор: Michael Cowles
Издательство: Psychology Press
Год: 2000
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 277
Размер: 14 MB
Язык: English

This book presents an historical overview of the field--from its development to the present--at an accessible mathematical level. This edition features two new chapters--one on factor analysis and the other on the rise of ANOVA usage in psychological research. Written for psychology, as well as other social science students, this book introduces the major personalities and their roles in the development of the field. It provides insight into the disciplines of statistics and experimental design through the examination of the character of its founders and the nature of their views, which were sometimes personal and ideological, rather than objective and scientific. It motivates further study by illustrating the human component of this field, adding dimension to an area that is typically very technical. Intended for advanced undergraduate and/or graduate students in psychology and other social sciences, this book will also be of interest to instructors and/or researchers interested in the origins of this omnipresent discipline.

Название: The Psychology of Humor: An Integrative Approach
Автор: Rod A. Martin
Издательство: Academic Press
Год: 2006
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 444
Размер: 15 MB
Язык: English

Research on humor is carried out in a number of areas in psychology, including the cognitive (What makes something funny?), developmental (when do we develop a sense of humor?), and social (how is humor used in social interactions?) Although there is enough interest in the area to have spawned several societies, the literature is dispersed in a number of primary journals, with little in the way of integration of the material into a book. Dr. Martin is one of the best known researchers in the area, and his research goes across subdisciplines in psychology to be of wide appeal.

Название: Creativity, Psychology and the History of Science
Автор: Howard E. Gruber, Katja Bodeker
Издательство: Springer
Год: 2005
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 532
Размер: 2 MB
Язык: English

Creativity, Psychology, and the History of Science offers for the first time a comprehensive overview of the oeuvre of Howard E. Gruber, who is noted for his contributions both to the psychology of creativity and to the history of science. Gruber is a pioneer in combining history of science and cognitive psychology by means of detailed and meticulous case studies. His award-winning books 'Darwin on man' and 'The essential Piaget' are both modern classics. The present book includes papers from a wide range of topics. In the contributions to creativity research, Gruber proposes his key ideas for studying creative work. Gruber focuses on how the thinking, motivation and affect of extraordinarily creative individuals evolve and how they interact over long periods of time. Gruber?s approach bridges many disciplines and subdisciplines in psychology and beyond, several of which are represented in the present volume: cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, history of science, aesthetics, and politics. The volume thus presents a unique and comprehensive contribution to our understanding of the creative process. Many of Gruber's papers have not previously been easily accessible; they are presented here in thoroughly revised form. The book is for psychologists, historians and philosophers of science interested in the intersection of psychology and the history of science.

Название: Motivation, Emotion, and Cognition: Integrative Perspectives on Intellectual Functioning and Development (Educational Psychology Series)
Автор: David Yun Dai, Robert J. Sternberg
Издательство: Lawrence Erlbaum
Год: 2004
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 480
Размер: 3 MB
Язык: English

The central argument of this book is that cognition is not the whole story in understanding intellectual functioning and development. To account for inter-individual, intra-individual, and developmental variability in actual intellectual performance, it is necessary to treat cognition, emotion, and motivation as inextricably related. Motivation, Emotion, and Cognition.
