The Focke-Wulf 190 was one of the best fighters of the Second World War and without doubt one of the most famous ever. A product of the brilliant mind of Engineer Kurt Tank, over 20, 000 examples were produced up to the end of the conflict showing great versatility and constituting a formidable war machine. Technically sophisticated, the events of war also brought to the fore its great strength and manoeuvrability. Its appearance created great concern among the Allies, who surprisingly did not know about its development and initially undervalued its excellent performance. Despite the fact that as a fighter it was on the small size, especially if compared to the contemporary American and British aircraft, the Fw 190 was very strong and heavy and during its career it showed itself capable of carrying a variety of really impressive weapons. Such extraordinary versatility was also very effectively obt ' ed due to the conversion equipment that could be fitted to the basic production series, the famous 'Umrust-Bausatz' (factory conversion kit) and 'Rustsatze' (conversions made directly on the field).
