Jack Strier spent his flight-test career-from 1952 until he retired in 1980-at Edwards Air Force Base, California. His legacy was not the aircraft he helped to perfect, but rather the people he mentored, taught, and developed. He was a United States Marine Corps aviator during World War II and flew F-4U Corsairs and F-6F Hellcats. After his release from active duty in 1946, he returned to the University of California at Los Angeles and earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1949.
