Название: Stalag XXA and the Enforced March from Poland Автор: Stephen Wynn Издательство: Pen and Sword ISBN: 1526754460 Год: 2020 Формат: EPUB Страниц: 168 Размер: 16,2 МБ Язык: Английский
Stalag XXA was a Second World War German POW camp for noncommissioned officers located in Nazi occupied Torun, in northern Poland. The camp consisted of fifteen forts, which in September 1939, under the name of Stalag 357, was used to house Polish POWs who were captured after German forces had taken the Polish fort at Westerplatte. British POWs didn’t arrive at the camp until June 1940, and were those captured during the Allied campaign in Norway, the evacuations of the British at Dunkirk, and the men of the 51st (Highland) Division at St. Valery. At its peak, the camp housed more than 10,000 men and was liberated by Russian forces on 1 February 1945.

Название: A Military Life of Constantine the Great Автор: Ian Hughes Издательство: Pen & Sword Год: 2020 Страниц: 337 Язык: English Формат: True PDF Размер: 23 MB
Much of Constantine I’s claim to lasting fame rests upon his sponsorship of Christianity, and many works have been published assessing whether his apparent conversion was a real religious experience or a cynical political maneuver. However his path to sole rule of the Roman Empire depended more upon the ruthless application of military might than upon his espousal of Christianity. He fought numerous campaigns, many of them against Roman rivals for Imperial power, most famously defeating Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. In this new study, Ian Hughes assesses whether Constantine would have deserved the title ‘the Great’ for his military achievements alone, or whether the epithet depends upon the gratitude of Christian historians. |

Название: Artillery of the Napoleonic Wars: A Concise Dictionary, 1792-1815 Автор: Kevin F Kiley Издательство: Frontline Books ISBN: 1848329539 Год: 2021 Формат: True PDF Страниц: 642 Размер: 44,3 МБ Язык: Английский
Napoleon began his military career as an artillery cadet and artillery played a fundamental part in all his great battles. Until the Napoleonic Wars artillery had been seen merely as a supporting arm to the infantry, but Napoleon changed everything. He massed his guns in huge batteries to blast holes in his opponent’s line. He even used the artillery to charge the enemy, the gunners galloping up to the enemy to open fire at pointblank range.

Название: The Military History of the Bicycle: The Forgotten War Machine Автор: John Norris Издательство: Pen and Sword ISBN: 1526763518 Год: 2021 Формат: True PDF Страниц: 201 Размер: 51,9 МБ Язык: Английский
Almost as soon as a viable metal-framed bike was invented, it was put to military use, offering a much cheaper, less fragile and less logistically demanding alternative to horse transport. Widely used in many armies from the late 19th century, through both world wars and beyond, the bicycle really is the forgotten war machine. John Norris traces traces the development of military cycling from first experiments, including early (often flawed) designs for armed and multi-passenger versions. He explains how any why bikes were used for rapid movement of infantry units as well as carrying messages and other tasks.

Nearly eight decades later, it has become one of those events which almost everyone knows of, but hardly anyone seems to know about.
