Название: The Royal Navy Wasp: An Operational and Retirement History Автор: Larry J Jeram-Croft, Terry Martin Издательство: Pen and Sword ISBN: 1526721147 Год: 2018 Формат: PDF Страниц: 282 Размер: 50,4 МБ Язык: Английский
This book tells the story of the first helicopter in the world designed from the outset to be deployed at sea, in Destroyers and Frigates. It is primarily based on the words of those who operated it. Designed from the outset to cope with the restricted space of a warship both for stowage and flight operations it proved an immediate success. Its original role was to act as a weapon carrier to launch torpedoes and depth charges on submarine contacts out of range of the parent ship's weapons range. Soon, it also took on a second primary role of air to surface attack using wire guided missiles. The flexibility of the machine was such that it was able to conduct a plethora of secondary roles from visual search to collecting the all-important ship's mail. Wherever the Royal Navy was deployed on operations a Wasp was there.

Often neglected in history books, the Trans-Mississippi West played an important role in the Civil War. Although the battles fought in this region were relatively small compared with those fought elsewhere, the struggle to control the Trans-Mississippi had far-reaching consequences for both sides.

Название: Polish Aces of World War 2 Автор: Robert Gretzyngier, Wojtek Matusiak Издательство: Osprey Publishing Серия: Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 21 ISBN: 1855327260 Год издания: 1998 Язык: English Cтраниц: 100 Формат: PDF Размер: 12,9 MB
Pilots of the Polish Air Force saw action from the first day of World War 2 until the final victory in Europe. Flying hopelessly outmoded P.11 fighters in defence of their country in September 1939, a handful of aviators inflicted serious losses on the Luftwaffe before being overwhelmed. The survivors escaped to then neutral Hungary and Romania, before being ordered to France by the new C-in-C of exiled Polish Armed Forces, General Sikorski. With the invasion of Western Europe in May 1940, the surviving pilots were once more thrust into desperate action in newly-formed Polish units |

Название: P-47 Thunderbolt Aces of the Ninth and Fifteenth Air Forces Автор: Jerry Scutts,Chris Davey Издательство: Osprey Publishing Серия: Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 30 ISBN: 978 1855329065 Год издания: 1999 Язык: English Cтраниц: 100 Формат: PDF Размер: 51 MB
This book charts the story of the lesser known aces who flew the mighty Republic aircraft as a tactical fighter-bomber with the Ninth Air Force, rather than as a long-range escort. It also details the exploits of the Mediterranean-based 325th FG, which was the only P-47 group within the strategic Fifteenth Air Force. Thunderbolt aces within the Ninth Air Force, particularly, were rare, despite some 15 groups flying the fighter. Supporting troops on the ground rather than searching out aerial foes, was the name of the game for the men of the Ninth. However, with the Luftwaffe often opposing such sorties through to April 1945, more than 20 pilots had the opportunity to score five or more kills and 'make ace'.

Between the settlement of the Pilgrims in New England in 1620 and the 1850s, native Indians were forced to move west of the Mississippi River. In the process they surrendered, mainly reluctantly, their claims to 412,000 square miles of land east of the Mississippi River and north of the Ohio River and the Mason-Dixon Line. |
