This comprehensive compendium discusses the basics of graph theory to its application, focusing on the application of graph theory to mobile communications.

A mobile communication connects a mobile terminal and a base station wirelessly, and the base station enables communications all over the world via a wired and satellite communication system. This means that the mobile communication system includes wire and wireless technologies, and also hardware such as analog electric circuits, digital circuits and a software part such as computer algorithms.

There are various systems having a network structure. For example, the Internet, a communication network, an electrical network, a road network, a traffic network, a human network, and so forth. The field of studying this network structure is called graph theory. In this book, we will discuss from the basics of graph theory to its application and in particular, we will focus on the application of graph theory to mobile communications. A mobile communication connects a mobile terminal and a base station wirelessly, and the base station enables communication all over the world via a wired and satellite communication system. This means that the mobile communication system includes wire and wireless technologies, and also hardware part such as analog electric circuits, digital circuits and a software part such as computer algorithms.

The systems of 1G to 4G of mobile communications in which G means generation have been developed as a tool for improving communication speed and mainly for communication between people. In 5G, various things are connected to the network and the change of the way of communication are expected to develop new businesses. The characteristics of mobile communication systems are cellular systems. A cellular system is a system that can continuously communicate no matter how the mobile terminal moves. The shape of the cell has evolved from one-dimensional line, a two-dimensional plane to a three-dimensional space and, in 5G, 6G, ... and kG, the shape changes with time to a four-dimensional shape. We also discuss the application of graph theory to such multidimensional mobile communications.

In Chapters 1 and 2, we deal with introduction and the basic concept of graphs, respectively. In Chapters 3 and 4, we deal with subgraphs trees, cotrees andhybrid trees, and matrix and application of trees which are useful subgraphs and tools for main application area of graph theory, respectively. In Chapter 5, we deal with graphical views of electrical and electronic networks which are related to hardware part such as analog electric circuits, digital circuits in mobile communication systems. In Chapters 6 and 7, we deal with graphs and mobile communication systems in which Chapter 6 is concerned with location problems and Chapter 7 is concerned with cellular systems in mobile communication systems.

This useful reference text deeply studies how the network structure influences the performance of the corresponding system.

Readership: Researchers, professionals, academics, undergraduate and graduate students in circuits & systems, communications and electrical and electronic engineering.
