Contents:
Chapter 1. RFID and Dead-Reckoning-Based Indoor Navigation for Visually Impaired Pedestrians (pages 1-16) This system prototype implements the Arduino Mega ADK for Android microcontroller board, with the ATmega2560 as the microcontroller. Two Arduino Mega ADK boards are used – one in the main module (attached with Wi-Fi shield, worn by the user), and another on the RFID module (attached with XBee shield, as a serial peripheral interface (SPI) to transistor-transistor logic (TTL) converter). This board is chosen for implementation due to its ability to support up to four serial communications simultaneously, along with SPI support.
Chapter 2. Information Communication Assistive Technologies for Visually Impaired People (pages 17-43) The Wireless Intelligent Assistive Navigation Management System Using SmartGuide Devices for Visually Impaired People is first presented. The first system consists of (i) SmartGuide devices to monitor the current locations of people in the environment. The SmartGuide is a small unit that is placed near the end of the walking stick of blind people or can be carried in the hand for low vision people; (ii) Wireless Technology consists of a mesh communications network to receive data from the SmartGuides and forward it using a low power protocol. Smart Nodes will be placed throughout the transportation environment to form the mesh network; (iii) Intelligent Assistive Navigation Management System which receives data from the mesh network and processes those signals. The Intelligent Assistive Navigation system allows the visually impaired person to input a desired location to go to and guides the person via speech technology to the desired destination.
Chapter 3. Gaze-Based Assistive Technologies (pages 44-66) Chapter 4. Design and Evaluation of Vision-Based Head and Face Tracking Interfaces for Assistive Input (pages 67-96) Chapter 5. Next Wave of Tele-Medicine: Virtual Presence of Medical Personnel (pages 97-109) Chapter 6. Emerging Technologies for Dementia Patient Monitoring (pages 110-154) Chapter 7. PRHOLO: 360? Interactive Public Relations (pages 156-181) Three virtual public relations installations were purposed in this chapter, combining technology with a human like public relations ability, capable of interacting with potential clients located in front of the installation, at angles of up to 57o (degrees), 180o and 360o, respectively. From one to several Microsoft Kinects were used to develop the three interaction models, which allows tracking and recognition of users’ gestures and positions (heat map), sound sources, voice commands and face and body extraction of the user interacting with the installation. Chapter 8. Usability Evaluation of Dialogue Designs for Voiceprint Authentication in Automated Telephone Banking (pages 182-201) Chapter 9. Technology-Enabled Experiential Marketing: Promotional Strategies Towards New Service Opportunities (pages 202-221) Chapter 10. Emerging Technologies and Organizational Transformation (pages 222-237) Chapter 11. Hybrid Intelligence for Smarter Networking Operations (pages 238-270) Chapter 12. Upgrading Society With Smart Government: The Use of Smart Services Among Federal Offices of the UAE (pages 272-304) Chapter 13. Societal Implications of Current and Emerging “Smart” Technologies (pages 305-317) Chapter 14. ZatLab Gesture Recognition Framework: Machine Learning Results (pages 318-332) Chapter 15. ZatLab: Programming a Framework for Gesture Recognition and Performance Interaction (pages 333-365) Chapter 16. Second Language Learners' Spoken Discourse: Practice and Corrective Feedback Through Automatic Speech Recognition (pages 367-389) Chapter 17. Speech Recognition Software Contributes to Reading Development for Young Learners of English (pages 390-404) ... Chapter 26. Implementation of Flooding Free Routing in Smart Grid: VCP Routing in Smart Gird (pages 575-598)
