On-time and On-demand delivery of software product to market have always been a challenging task. Software application providers have to take drastic measures to speed up their development process in order to survive into the ever-demanding competitive software market. Reuse has been suggested as one of the pioneer solutions to handle the challenge. Effective reuse of components within an organization requires a planned and preemptive measure. Software product line technique has already been adopted as one of the most promising techniques for reuse. Such reuse not only improves the productivity and software quality but also decreases time-to-market.
A software product line (SPL) is known as a family of software systems sharing a set of common features. Other than the common ones, there is also a set of variable features. These features are managed according to the needs of specific market segment. The primary purpose of the concept of SPL is reusability. Within a particular application domain, the development of a product is eased by SPL engineering in which the commonalities and variabilities among the products are managed in a systematic way. In order to help the stakeholders to select features from a SPL according to their requirements, all the features of the SPL are arranged into a model. This model is known as the feature model.
