This book introduces Industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) in multiple dimensions. A broad range of Industries including automotive, aerospace, healthcare, semiconductors, energy, transportation, mining, construction, and industrial automation could harness the power of Industrial AI to gain insights into the invisible relationship of the operation conditions and further use that insight to optimize their uptime, productivity and efficiency of their operations. In terms of predictive maintenance, Industrial AI can detect incipient changes in the system and predict the remains useful life and further to optimize maintenance tasks to avoid disruption to operations.
And here we can benefit from the advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is a cognitive science with rich research activities in the areas of image processing, natural language processing, robotics, machine learning, etc. Historically, machine learning and AI have been perceived as black-art techniques and there is often a lack of compelling evidence to convince industry that these techniques will work repeatedly and consistently with a return on investment. Hence, the success of AI in industrial applications was very limited. On the contrary, Industrial AI is a scientific discipline, which focuses on developing, validating, and deploying various machine learning algorithms for industrial applications with sustainable performance. It acts as a systematic methodology and discipline to provide solutions for industrial applications and function as a bridge connecting academic research outcomes in AI to industry practitioners.
