This book aimed at bringing an insight to the ICN network, particularly various architectures, issues and challenges in the new networking paradigm. The book starts with an introduction to the new promising concept of ICN and its origin along with the reason behind this interesting innovation. Different architectures proposed so far in support of implementing the ICN is also discussed in details. Few of the challenges of ICN implementation are enlisted as caching, naming, routing, and security. Each of these challenges with recent development is covered in individual chapters. Moreover, integration of current trends in communication and computing like software defined networking and Machine Learning approach are another area that this book is focusing. All these chapters highlight the recent developments reported in the area and also discusses the future trends. The book provides an overview of the recent developments in future internet technologies, bringing together the advancements that have been made in ICN.

Increasing traffic volume, increasing number of mobile and video applications, cloud computing, social networks, and Big Data applications are major concerns for the current form of the Internet. It seems there is a need for evolution in the architecture of the Internet to cope up with this changing environment. Different CDN providers and P2P applications are based on the proprietary distribution technologies. Such distribution approaches are implemented as an overlay, and therefore, it is associated with different undesired inefficiencies.

Information Centric Networking (ICN) brings such an evolution to the current Internet architecture. The focus here is on named data objects. There is a shift of core principle in the present form of the Internet, i.e., from IP address–based information source to uniquely named data in ICN. Data in ICN becomes independent from location, storage, and application. In-network caching and replication of data is permitted in ICN. Issues like scalability and high-bandwidth demands of applications over the Internet are expected to be handled with efficiency in ICN. There are few implementations of ICN available in the form of TRIAD (Translating Relaying Internet Architecture Integrating Active Directories), NetInf (Network of Information), DONA (Data Oriented Networking Architecture), and NDN (Named Data Networking).

ICN is an evolution of the Internet and it is expected to get reflected in various layers of the protocol stack of the Internet. Name-based data access being the primary goal, ICN may evolve the Internet architecture in different layers. Although ICN seems to be a fascinating idea, it has many research challenges. Following is a list of at least few such challenges that need attention of researchers. Novel schemes for naming of data, schemes for name resolution, routing protocols which are scalable, in-network caching mechanisms, congestion control mechanisms, quality of service provisioning, security and privacy provisioning, application level protocol design along with applications interfaces (APIs), and frameworks for business, legal, and regulatory purposes are few of the research challenges associated with ICN.

This book is an effort to put various stuffs related to ICN together systematically so that researchers and interested readers can get an integrated view of the subject. There are nine chapters incorporated in this book that cover most of the associated topics of ICN.

Contents:
1. Introduction to Information-Centric Networks
2. Architectures for Content Communication
