While Kubernetes has established itself as the industry standard for managing containers and their lifecycles, theres a definite need for good practices on how to write native applications. Until now, knowledge on programming Kubernetes has been scattered over a thousands of Slack channels and Stack Overflow answers. This practical guide shows application and infrastructure developers, DevOps practitioners, and site reliability engineers how to develop cloud-native apps that run on Kubernetes.

As soon as the popular javascript framework Vue.js released v2, I was eager to give it a spin and see what its like to work with. As someone whos pretty familiar with Angular and React, I was looking forward to seeing the similarities and differences between them and Vue. Vue 2 sports excellent performance stats, a relatively small payload (the bundled runtime version of Vue weighs in at 30KB once minified and gzipped), along with updates to companion libraries like vue-router and Vuex, the state management library for Vue. Theres far too much to cover in just one article, but keep an eye out for some later articles where well look more closely at various libraries that couple nicely with the core framework.

One the reasons I like Vue.js so much is that it can be used in a wide variety of scenarios and can be integrated into many different kinds of projects. So to me, Vue is a universal, multipurpose framework. In this aspect, it reminds me of the Python programming language, which is also easy to learn and use, and can be applied in many areas. In this tutorial, well explore one of the less obvious uses for Vue - game development.

Since its release in 2014, Vue.js has seen a meteoric rise to popularity and is is now considered one of the primary front-end frameworks, and not without good reason. Its component-based architecture was designed to be flexible and easy to adopt, making it just as easy to integrate into projects and use alongside non-Vue code as it is to build complex client-side applications.

A Wharton professor and tech entrepreneur examines how algorithms and artificial intelligence are starting to run every aspect of our lives, and how we can shape the way they impact us. Through the technology embedded in almost every major tech platform and every web-enabled device, algorithms and the artificial intelligence that underlies them make a staggering number of everyday decisions for us, from what products we buy, to where we decide to eat, to how we consume our news, to whom we date, and how we find a job. We've even delegated life-and-death decisions to algorithmsdecisions once made by doctors, pilots, and judges. In his new book, Kartik Hosanagar surveys the brave new world of algorithmic decision-making and reveals the potentially dangerous biases they can give rise to as they increasingly run our lives. He makes the compelling case that we need to arm ourselves with a better, deeper, more nuanced understanding of the phenomenon of algorithmic thinking.

Fortran marches on, remaining one of the principal programming languages used in high-performance scientific, numerical, and engineering computing. A series of significant revisions to the standard versions of the language have progressively enhanced its capabilities, and the latest standard - Fortran 2018 - includes many additions and improvements. This edition of Modern Fortran Explained expands on the last. Given the release of updated versions of Fortran compilers, the separate descriptions of Fortran 2003 and Fortran 2008 have been incorporated into the main text, which thereby becomes a unified description of the full Fortran 2008 version of the language. This clearer standard has allowed many deficiencies and irregularities in the earlier language versions to be resolved. Four new chapters describe the additional features of Fortran 2018, with its enhancements to coarrays for parallel programming, interoperability with C, IEEE arithmetic, and various other improvements.
